IRS & State Notices and Tax Resolution Guidance

Receiving a letter from the IRS or state tax agency can be stressful, but most issues can be resolved quickly with the right steps. This page explains what to do if you receive a notice and how Premier Tax & Resolution LLC can help.

If You Receive a Notice or Letter

  1. Stay calm. Not all notices mean you owe money or did something wrong. Many are informational or request clarification.
  2. Do not ignore it. Most notices have response deadlines, typically 30 days. Ignoring them can lead to additional penalties or collection action.
  3. Read it carefully. Identify the notice number in the upper right corner (for example, CP2000, CP14, or LT11).
  4. Upload it to your client portal. Scan or photograph the entire notice, including all pages and attachments, then upload it securely to your Client Portal under the “IRS/State Notices” folder.
  5. Contact our office. Send us a message in your portal to confirm we’ve received your notice. Do not call the IRS directly without first consulting us.

Common IRS & State Notices

CP14 – Balance Due Notice
The IRS believes you have a balance due. We can review your account, verify accuracy, and assist with payment plans or penalty relief if appropriate.

CP2000 – Income Discrepancy Notice
The IRS detected a mismatch between your tax return and information reported by employers or financial institutions. We can review and respond on your behalf with corrected documentation or an amended return if necessary.

CP501 / CP503 / CP504 – Collection Notices
These are escalating notices about unpaid balances. We can intervene to prevent liens, levies, or further enforcement by setting up an installment agreement or negotiating other relief.

State Department of Revenue Notices (Oregon or Washington)

State notices often involve return corrections, underpayments, or missing filings. Upload them to your portal as soon as they arrive so we can respond promptly.
